The horror here is real - and it gets real gory - but there’s more to it. Boys in The Valley has a creepy, brooding atmosphere and a claustrophobic setting (St. Vincent’s Orphanage For Boys.) Fracassi developed strong characters and subdued them to a chain of horrific events.

This was an eerie and fast paced read. The writing was too simple at times but overall I enjoyed the boldness of the story. I haven't read this author before but I'm going to look into his other work. I had not heard of this book until it was recommended by a member of Literally Bookish Book Club. I may purchase a copy to put into ration as a traveling book.
This book was a trip from start to finish and I was literally gasping as different scenes developed. listening to an audiobook made the characters screams and cries that much more intense, but the writing style would surely be gripping no matter how it was presented

MCR quote in the epigraph from the black parade definitely helped in continuing this book.
I thought this book was overall good and I wanted to finish it, but in surprised by how highly reviewed it was. I liked how it reminded me of the exorcist, I don’t get as much of the Lord of The Flies vibes as everyone else seems to see other than boys who don’t have adults around.
I think were some super successful scenes and horrors in this book, especially when the man came to the orphanage. I just felt there were some lulls with too much dialogue and some gap in explanation as to why some boys went to the “dark side” and why some didn’t. Maybe the author was trying to keep the fear of unknown/ didn’t want to over explain something. It felt unfinished and a little like almost lazy storytelling. Which feels harsh but I still enjoyed the book but I also felt disappointed with the lack of clarity.

This book gave me a definite 80s horror movie vibe; kind of cheesy but spooky and fun.

The real horror here is how dramatic this book is and how slow it is!
It didn’t scare me! It just made me want to cry for the boys!
It was beautifully written and yet it was so daaaamn’ boring and sad.
