BOOK #100!

I loved the book! The characters were well-developed, the plot was engaging, and the ending was unexpected and satisfying. Overall, it was a great read.

It's super perverted of me to give this book even four stars, because man is it messed up. But...definitely in the "I'm going to turn the pages desperately" kind of way. Cain is a damn fabulous writer, and her characters are that gut-punch mix of sympathetic and horrifying. Yep, I'm gonna say it: I can't wait to read the next one. Truly, the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I couldn't bring myself to read it again; some of the graphic scenes were a little much even for me.

For those of you who really want to read this based on the average review, please do so. I need to stay away from these who-dun-it books as they are starting to wane on me. I’m going to have to take a break from these for awhile. The substance and suspense just isn’t there for me. It may have been received differently had I read this, but I listened to it instead. Who knows....

Archie is a serial killer obsessed (the woman who he chased for over a decade and tortured and killed him, brought him back and torments him on a weekly basis and talks to him like an intimate lover would using cute nicknames) and pill-head (seriously how is this guy alive and functioning at this point will all the pills he eats like candy and how the hell is he still getting them legally? Plus top police brass coving up the fact that he is high 24/7 while working for them) who is brought off medical leave to head the task force of a new serial killer. He will be shadowed by a reporter who is stuck in the mindset of her young teenage self when she was sexually abused and now uses sex and the occasional drug to feel good.

Throughout the story we are treated to flashbacks of the torture porn that was Archie's past and the every detail of the murder and rape of young teenage girls as well as victim blaming at the end. Also witness the self abuse of the two main characters as they slowly commit suicide by pills or risky behavior in search of a good time.

This is a rip off of Red Dragon and others of the Hannibal series just with some gender swapping and almost deeply loving/moving excitement (to the characters) over torture instead of cannibalism.

i was introduced to this series by my sister-in-law while living at home one summer. it took about 50 pages to get into and understand what was present day and what was flashbacks, but after that, it was a race to the finish. such a fresh voice in the thriller world. i look forward to reading whatever else she writes. also, when/if this series makes it to the big screen, i will be there opening night!

I loved this book, it is defiantly an up all nighter and a female serial killer that is more compelling than Hannibal Lecter.
Some ingenious torture methods and this book will have you wanting to read the second book in the Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell series.

Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell are by far my most favourite serial killer, Detective duo and since reading all of the books in this series I have never found any that shine so bright. I was so excited when a book flashed up from Chelsea Cain for pre-order that I felt like a kid at Christmas but I so was disappointed it wasn’t the continuation of their story but a whole other series.

I am pleading with Chelsea Cain to bring Archie and Gretchen back into our lives and hearts asap! Please 🙂

As serial killers go, Gretchen is just brilliant and I cant help but admire some of her torture methods and even though I raced through all these books a few years ago now I still can see in my mind’s eye the trials and tribulations these two pull as through and they are just as sharp now as they were when I first read them. I own them on in book form as well as kindle versions and they will never be deleted from the kindle as they are books I can read and re read without every losing the magic.

So Please Please Please Chelsea Cain – Bring back Archie and Gretchen.

It’s not all torture and murders but has the strange relationship between cop and killer.

What more can i say, if you loved Hannibal then you will be blown away by Gretchen.

My advice, have the next book Sweetheart close to hand as you will have to read it as soon as you have finished this book.

Read the whole Gretchen Lowell series and you won’t be disappointed, only until you reach the end of the series and the long wait for the next instalment of the chapter.

Very addictive reading. Fantastic plots. Go get reading

The new Chelsea Cain book “One Kick” A Kick Lannigan Novel was good but not a patch on your previous books. I have had long and in-depth discussions with my friends regarding this and our local Book Club so I’m by far not alone in this wish!
