This is a disappointing follow-up to The Quiet Tenant. In Our Last Resort, we follow Frieda and Gabriel, adult survivors of a cult, as they attempt to reconnect with one another. During their vacation, a woman is murdered, and Frieda and Gabriel become suspects.

I generally don't enjoy books about cults or former cult members. It is too formulaic:

Cult Leader did A = former cult member is now upset whenever anyone does A. This book is no exception.

This book is too long. Extremely slow and long! The last hour of the book is exciting, and reveals twists that I didn't anticipate, but everything leading up to the last hour was a slog.

I hated the constant back and forth of past and present. It was pretty obvious Frieda killed Annie she's basically male centered. I personally did not care for this book but I finished it just to help reach my goal. I 100% wont read it again nor buy it as a trophy.

For a thriller, I wasn’t thrilled. I wasn’t super compelled to continue reading at any moment before 65%, at which point the pacing picked up but so did the predictability. Overall disappointing, as I enjoyed this author’s previous novel.

I liked: the premise (it had potential)

I disliked: the execution, predictability, characters never really came alive to me
