Interestingly organized. The ending could have been better.
main reason why i enjoyed this: the relationship between frida and gabriel was central to the story. we see their first meeting, the connection they form after a lonely existence, the bond deepening through the years, the cracks that begin to show once they escape they cult and the fragile reunion that serves to show both their closeness and the present distance between them. this was not a story without flaws, the big twist was pretty predictable, but ultimately i found it convincing. i really liked the questionable ending, it made sense given the journey to get there and i loved that the story focused on love and loyalty between siblings, and how that fierce attachment can be dangerous and a lifeline.

enjoyed the cult flashbacks, was... concerned about the current state of things. I feel like you could best compare to how people say you can always tell which kids were homeschooled? You can totally tell these guys escaped from a cult, because apparently they have no idea how to interact with other people, except they are grown-ass adults who somehow have jobs and relationships and money. How???

When I saw the description of this book I was immediately interested and after loving The Quiet Tenant by this author I went in with high expectations. It took me a little while to get in to the story as the pacing is quite slow, I really liked the dual past/present timelines and was anticipating some darkness within the past chapters. I hoped they would give me a wider insight into the characters and help me connect to them but unfortunately this didn’t happen. The chapters were very descriptive but I didn’t find much of it added any value to the story. I enjoyed the cult chapters but I would have enjoyed the book more if I’d have found out more about the cult than I did. I didn’t feel a suspense build up so the reveal and final twist fell a little flat for me.
