bad book. lots of spelling & grammatical errors. don’t read this if you’re taking it seriously. i only read it because im grieving a loved one & needed a quick & stupid read to distract me from my grief. i also like baseball… but the baseball mentions in this book were not really even there so… yeah.

i liked the other Maren Moore sports romance I've read better. the characters in this one fell a little flat. Hallie seemed sweet, and Lane was sweet to Hallie, but i wish we got a little more of their distinct personalities on-page.

i think when the characters get together really early on, it's harder to develop them because they're spending less time apart than characters in other romance books that aren't FWB to lovers.

i LOVED that the childhood pining was double-sided.

my interest in the sex scenes (and therefore the plot) waned at the halfway mark and i kept zoning out while reading them. this is probably just a me thing, though.

i'm always gonna rate a book that portrays healthy relationship dynamics, a boy being devoted to a girl, and a short third-act breakup with an amazingly cute reunion 3 stars. period.

the author's playlist for this book fucking rocks!!!!

Such a strong start to a series and I just know I'm going to tear through Maren Moore's back catalogue because I just absolutely loved her prose and her character development. I read this book in a day with one single break because I didn't expect to be sucked into the most fabulous read and needed a snack.

I love a good best friends brother moment. Hallie drunkenly making a list and then just assuming it was Eli in the shower, hysterical. Also, I cannot get over how
instead of trying to sneak around behind Eli's back Lane just was straight with him and asked how he would feel if he asked Hallie out. Top notch maturity that I just absolutely stan.
. It was clear from the beginning that these two were absolutely head over heels for each other, even if they tried to avoid their feelings.
I LOVED that we didn't get just a "they've been pining over each other for years and ignoring their feelings but now they're ready to give it a shot" rushed romance, but we actually got to watch them develop as people and a couple. I just absolutley fucking loved every moment of this book. 12/10.

Immediately off to read book 2 in the series.

I kinda hate this book a little bit which sucks because I was so excited for it—which looking back I don’t know what about you because I hate virginity as a trope.

First of all, I’m writing this review 92% of the way done.

1. Hallie is a manic pixie dream girl if I’ve ever seen one. Like girl we get it you’re weird, you like conspiracies & aliens & Bigfoot. You’re not like other girls. It’s really not that big of a deal— ESPECIALLY in college. Everyone’s weird & into their own stuff in college. I want to know how big this school is because 1. why does everyone know everyone & 2. why are these people acting like they’re in HS? And this is not a college romance problem this is a this book problem

2. I hate the way Lane spoke to/about other women when he stood up for Hallie. Like yes defend her but he basically slut shamed another woman & I’m just wondering if he forgot that he was a slut too

3. I knew who aliesrreal was the second time I read that name

4. I think freshman-senior dynamic is weird

5. I feel like lane’s handling of the whole MLB situation was done poorly on his part. His feelings were valid but did he ever tell his dad he was tired of talking about baseball before going off at dinner? Like the dinner scene felt like it should have been led up to with hints or efforts to redirect the conversation before but instead lane had just been ignoring his dad & then got mad when his dad couldn’t read his mind. Also we never knew lanes major until like 80% of the way into the book & that annoyed me because what’s your plan after college if it’s not MLB?

5. Why did we never get to see the full proposal though it was CONSTANTLY referenced?

6. Where were Hallie’s parents the whole book? (they literally showed up in the epilogue)

7. I’m not anti third act breakup like a lot of romance girlies but this one sucked

The good:
1. I liked how caring & intentional Lane was with Hallie & how he approached his brother first.

2. I know a lot of people said that Lane shouldn’t have been sleeping with other girls if he had feelings for Hallie, but if he did believe Hallie & Eli were a thing, he did right by being platonic & living his life. I don’t believe in sitting around waiting for someone to maybe give you a chance one day.

3. I liked Liv.

4. I loved seeing Hallie & Eli have platonic love for one another.
