Enjoyable romp and not quite what I expected! Some very emotional bits and lots of fights and such a cliffhanger ending
so meh. the first was so good and this one was just a giant ball of confusion- it never really went anywhere and was mildly irritating the whole time
Gahh, why must I wait for more? I read this in one day because I couldn't stop. Such a great continuation!!
I still enjoyed it but compared to the first book it’s kinda eh… It kinda felt like a filler.
I loved Carry On but I had a hard time getting into this. Maybe too much time has passed since I read the first book. Maybe the series has strayed too far from its roots as a fluffy romantic romp. Or maybe a sequel to a spinoff of a fanfic parody is just a bridge too far.
All I know is that I couldn’t remember why I cared about these characters anymore, and the book gave me no reason to as they blundered around aimlessly, and all the weaknesses I ignored in Carry On only seemed more glaring here.
Too much of the writing reads like an American desperately trying to sound British, and... well, I said it already but this story is a knockoff of a certain well-known magical boarding school series. The first book worked because it played with the tropes from that series, but the gimmick's gone here and I realized I’d rather be reading fanfic of the original.
Abandoned at 50%.

I was so happy to finally be able to read this book. I seem to have been waiting forever. It did not disappoint and I loved every second of it, but the ending...I need to know what happens next right away! I do not want to wait years to find out where this story goes.
Rainbow, you've done it again. I'm in love with these characters (every single one of them! Not just Simon and Baz!), and I love this wild, weird world. What a beautiful idea to delve into life after a traumatic event. You can't jump from dramatic, life-threatening events to happily ever afters. Rainbow understands and expresses true human emotions and experiences incredibly well. She's changing the face of young adult literature. And who doesn't love an adventurous road trip across America? It's fun and funny as well as raw and real. I laughed out loud and cried and underlined entire pages. This is one I will read again and again.
Unsurprisingly I adored this book. Only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is because I feel like the ending was a bit rushed. It did what it needed to do to set up for the third book, which I don’t dislike, I just felt like it was done in way too quick a manor. Regardless, I look forward to devouring everything else Rainbow Rowell writes.
