I will read anything Rainbow Rowell writes because no one tells a story like she does. Queer YA books are something that I needed 20 years ago but couldn't readily find and now they're popping up everywhere, but Rowell truly does a stellar job at keeping things real and honest. Here stream of consciousness, heart on the sleeve writing is relatable and addicting. Queer love + magic is something I never knew I needed as bad as I did until Rowell started her Baz and Simon romance <3. The only reason I am not giving this book 5 stars is because I felt like this book seemed like a forced volume of something that needed to be published so she threw up this story onto paper and sent it out into the world rather than she had a truly wonderful idea that she could take her time on and process and really make it something wonderful like her other books. It is not bad at all, it's just not the best Rowell book by any means.

This book was just so fun to read! I love Rainbow Rowell as a writer and I'm excited to see where this series goes.

Based on the ending, we have not seen the last of Simon Snow.

2.5

This one felt chaotic as hell. I really was hoping for more romance between Simon and Baz and that definitely did not happen. This almost felt like actual fanfiction of the first book, which is an accomplishment in a way, but not an amazing fanfiction you continue to think about and go back to read, but one you read at 2am and think "well that was fun."

I did like the addition of the Normal character and the expansion of the wizarding world and how the culture of magic changes in different countries was interesting.
