Once again, The author’s notes at the end of the book are amazingly informative.

I'll be honest it was just okay. It wasn't great I'll remember it forever and it wasn't awful. I felt the story was good plot was good but it needed to be shorter and less detailed.

Mid at best

Too long and drawn out

I made it 27% into this one and just...didn't care. The writing was fine (I've loved Thompson before) but the characters weren't intriguing me and I kind of felt like I was reading the same old WWII novel I've read many, many times before. (And I LOVE WWII novels.) I think I'm also not loving all the HF books that are trying to draw parallels between book banning by Nazi Germany and book banning happening now, especially in the US. I know there are similarities but it just isn't working for me.

I love book people - I've been reading more books about bibliophiles and it just touches my heart even more. Libraries and books are so important not just for the stories they have to tell but also the magical outlet they provide.

This book will sit with me for a long time to come. When anyone asks me for book recommendations I will scream it's name as loud as I can.

The research and care put into this novel by the author, Kate Thompson, is awe inspiring, even more so are the real stories she included in the back of the book, the real resistance, the real atrocities, all of it.

I might rewrite this review later, but for now I will sit with the feelings this book has brought up, and admire it.
