This Winter is a lovely book. This story was written very well. The story was pretty dark but ends off with a light and hopeful ending for our main characters. The story focuses around the Spring siblings (Charlie, Tori and Oliver) trying to navigate through this difficult Christmas.

This book occurs on Christmas Day in the same world as Solitaire and Heartstoppers. I recommend reading it after Heartstoppers Vol. 4 for context. I haven't read Solitaire yet, but in the timeline of the story I believe the events in this occur before Solitaire.

This book is a combination of prose, illustrations, and text message graphics. It was a bit jarring to read from the perspective of Charlie as opposed to just seeing the illustrations. Charlie and Nick still made me smile because of their absolute adorable-ness, but it did lose a bit of the cute factor for me because of the lack of illustrations.

I enjoyed reading from Tori's perspective and Oliver's though. I think Oliver's part was pretty authentic of how a 7 year old potentially thinks as I have a 7 year old boy myself and he has very similar logic and thought processes (he also thinks the world is a better place with his much older brother and sister!) It was really cute reading his part. Tori's was good in a different way and I look forward to reading more from her when I get to Solitaire.

The plot in this is pretty non-existent since it takes place on one day, but I feel like that's pretty obvious since it's a novella. If you like this world, you will probably like this book. I am surprised that it scored so high on my CAWPILE since I usually don't enjoy novellas and short stories all that much. I will say that my holidays are more like Charlie's than Nick's.

I love the Heartstopper graphic novels and read this book to catch up on what happened with Nick and Charlie between volume  3 and 4 of the comics. I liked the different perspectives from Tori, Charlie, and especially Oliver to show how they are affected by Charlie's eating disorder. However, I didn't love the blunt on the nose writing style. Alice oseman is incredible at telling stories in the graphic novel format, but this writing  just wasn't doing it for me.
