My biggest downfalls with this book were the two escapes by George. They both seem too unrealistic and I think it would have been a much better ending if he went down in a blaze of glory. I'm also not a fan of people seeming to die and then magically being alive in the end so that may be why I had such issues with the ending. I guess you have to do something spectacular to write a sequel though...

This book would be a 5-star book if Abbey wasn't so racist and sexist. It is reasonable that it would be difficult to read through that, but if you can then you won't be able to put it down.

Read this because it was one of my dad's favorites & I love Edward Abbey. This was not my favorite although I like the way Edward Abbey describes scenery & surroundings.

Abbey's writing cracks me up. This story has a lot of moral holes in it but it was an entertaining read.

Going into this book I think I expected an inspiring environmental activism book that dealt with water issues in the American Southwest. I came to find that it was about extremist environmental activists who were crass, racist, sexist, and extremely hypocritical. I kept looking for the purpose of the characters being so  difficult to relate to but I could not figure it out. The descriptions of the west are interesting and unique with similarly interesting chase scenes but this was not enough to make the book worth reading in all honesty.
