Dnf @ 55%, the mmc is an absolute idiot. He’s spent the first half of the book building a relationship with the fmc who is on the run and in hiding from her past all while lying to her about who he is. I don’t see how she ends up forgiving the mmc for lying to her given her history with men. I mean he tells her he loves her and lets her say it back to him without her even knowing his real name. Crazy behavior.

Also, the cartoon cover doesn’t match the description in the book where it says the fmc barely comes up to the mmc chest on a good day. Also also the cartoon cover looks nothing like the models in the model cover, so which is more accurate.

Lily Adams is a young single mother of a rambunctious toddler, hiding in plain sight from a drug addicted former boyfriend, her son’s father, and her older brother who has always been her protector in their foster homes and has tried repeatedly to rescue her from her own addiction. Now she is clean, minimally employed and devoted to her 3-year old son. But someone is watching her. Mason Wells is the best private investigator in Tennessee and has been hired by Lily’s brother to find her and call him to come and get her. Mason has been watching her for a few days and is trying to find any reason not to alert her brother. So he has convinced himself that he can’t send her back until he knows what he is sending her back to. In the meantime, Mason has fallen in love with Lily and they are enjoying a hot, heavy affair. In addition, he has come to care for Cash, Lily’s son.

But Mason has his own demons he is hiding from. His name is that of his boss, the owner of the investigation company he works for. Mason has spent 10 years training, exercising and toning of his body. His father is a powerful politician now planning to make a run for the presidency. And he wants his runaway son at his side for the announcement. Mason initially laughed off his father’s request until his assistants threatened Lily and Chase. To protect them, Mason had to abandon them. The remainder of the book follows both Lily and Mason’s attempts to go home again.

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did but a group of likable characters, an interesting plot, and a satisfying resolution made it more enjoyable than expected. An open door approach to the romance may not be to everyone’s taste but could be easily skipped if desired. Recommend to
Readers of contemporary romance, small town setting, dark adult fiction.
