This was a surprisingly captivating read. I loved how Caro de Robertis reimagined the classic myth of Psyche and Eros, giving us a deeper look into Psyche’s life and motivations beyond the familiar tale. The characters are richly diverse, and I especially appreciated how Eros is portrayed as nonbinary. It felt both timeless and refreshingly modern, adding new layers of complexity to the story.
The prose is lyrical (like how the original may have been told) but also engrossing. The narrative explores themes of love, identity, and transformation in ways that linger long after you finish. A beautifully rendered, thought-provoking novel that breathes new life into a timeless myth.
Fans of mythological retellings like Circe by Madeline Miller or The Song of Achilles will likely fall in love with this book. It’s perfect for readers who enjoy seeing old stories brought to life with fresh perspectives and inclusive storytelling.
