The history of innovation, while interesting, burns up much of the book, so that by the time I got to computer and internet technology it was (ironically) tough to sustain attention.

Prescient and prophetic, everyone should read this if for no other reason to understand what’s happening in our heads. Not all is negative and pessimistic. There’s optimism. That being said, this is a highly interesting work of internet criticism.

About twice as long as it needed to be, but extremely fascinating an thought provoking. It's more complex than the title suggests - a fairly complete history of the modes of transmission of verbal communication throughout history and the impact of those changes on the physical and emotional brain, greatly influencing how we think. A lot of food for thought and reflection in here.
