I sometimes couldn’t quite keep track of the basic plot, how they time traveled and which years Joss needed to get back to etc

this book has a really intriguing concept and so much potential. Nix’s dad is a navigator, which means that as long as he has a map (fictional, historical or real) he can get there. Nix and her dad live on a ship together. There’s time travelling as well. Just hearing that concept, intrigued me and made me want to read this book. It was an easy read which is nice.
I’m not sure if it’s just because I feel like I’m kind of over YA, but it felt like not a lot happened. There was a lot of beautiful descriptions but the story in general felt disjointed and I was just waiting for more to happen.
Nix as a character didn’t feel like a character. I don’t think she had a personality since she was so boring. The side characters were also interchangeable to me. The story, plotting and characters felt really underdeveloped.

Loved the concept, didn't fully come together for me, but was a fun read!

Easy read and quick story line. I was dragged in from the beginning and Kashmir was a fun character. Very interesting mix of time-travel, coming of age, pirate, fantasy, and historical references wrapped up in one.

sooo long and boring it dragged horribly. Finished The Cruel Prince & Wicked King before I could reach the halfway point- Two 300+ page books took me 3 days to complete each while THIS took me about 4 weeks and I couldn't get passed 240... WHO let it be that long and slow? Genuinely the synopsis sounded soo good but THEY JUST STAY IN HONOLULU THE ENTIRE BOOK. TIME TRAVEL? if you consider modern 2016 NYC and 1866 Honolulu.. that's the extent of it. skip. ignore. dnf!!!!
