This author is incredible. What a deeply emotional book of finding yourself as a young queer person. So many difficult topics were discussed: being Indian/Bengali in a dominantly White school, living up to the expectations of parents, navigating old and new friendships.
I think I liked this book even more than The Henna Wars, but it's a tough call because both were brilliant. I have the Dos and Donuts of Love up next from this author and I'm excited to dig in!

This book was adorable and sweet. Also i fucking hated Hani’s friends

OMG this was so cute and fun!! Loved the fun, lighthearted romance balanced with the serious discussions on the weight of family expectations, being yourself, friendship, queer and religious identities.

Hani and Ishu are both Bengali but come from different cultural/lingual backgrounds so I loved those discussions! I also loved their chemistry and banter 💗 And of course the bi rep and Hani advocating for herself!

The only reason it wasn’t quite a 5 star read was there were a few too many pop culture/social media references for my taste, it’s something I don’t enjoy as it really dates a book (and pigeonholes some things like using Spotify instead of just saying a character put on some music).

I devoured this novel and Jaigirdar is now an auto read author for me!!

I have similar feelings towards this as I had when I finished The Henna Wars.
Really enjoyed the social commentary and emphasis on complex family-dynamics, but never got fully invested in the actual romance.

A solid recommendation if you want a cute, feel-good YA romance, which also packs quite a few emotional punches.

I really liked this one, as I did The Henna Wars.  I’m finding it hard to find the words I want to say about it without sounding cliche. But it deals with cultural identity and queer identity along with the need to fit in and different family dynamics. And I’m just here for all those topics
