Would have been cool if the story dug deeper into how belief systems work and why they can be so appealing.

Skrutskie did it again. What a brilliant book.
I really loved the god-like AI, the mismatched crew, learning about the ship, and honestly being in Murdocks head was pretty great. You can truly see how cocky she was at the start of the 2 weeks and how she grew up in that time.

Cool premise, but this reads like a rough draft. There are some plot holes that stick out and bugged me. It was entertaining, but not something I would read again.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House for this ARC!
This book unfortunately wasn't for me. It was too fast-paced for my liking and wasn't as developed as I'd expect from a sci-fi novel. It didn't feel like there was much depth in any of the characters or the relationships (aside from one part with Murdock and Ham), the universe/world seemed under-developed, and it felt all over the place.
If you're into extremely fast-paced adventurous sci-fi books, you'll probably enjoy this book- it just didn't fit my taste. The setup and the plot of the novel had so much potential (I was originally drawn to this book by the description), but it just wasn't executed in the way I imagined it.
I didn't enjoy the character development/relationship developments- everything just felt extremely rushed. It could've been written much better.

A rollicking good time in space! Lots of tension and creativity. I found the main character lovable in her desperation to be useful--it made for a delicious tension seeing her struggle between following her team leader Hark and the AI that leads the ship Justice. It was also lovely to see her growth as the story went on and how she gained confidence and connected with other people on more equal and respectful terms.
The universe-building and sci-fi aspects were strong. I loved reading the ways various groups on the Justice build a life for themselves. The details on the forge and how that works were especially engaging, and made for a great high-stakes situation for our main characters. The ship becomes a whole ecosystem which every person on board has to engage with.
Although I enjoyed the characters and their relationships, I found in the latter half of the book I didn't fully believe some decisions, or more specifically some snap decisions that felt VERY snap. And not gonna lie... I was kind of cheering for the AI even though it was evil XD. Still, by the end of the book I found the directions for each character compelling and sensible.
Overall though this was a super fun sci-fi read, and one primarily featuring women, which is my personal preference. It's engaging with strong sci-fi universe-building, but ultimately is one self-contained book that's not super long. I would definitely recommend to any sci-fi fan who wants something that features women, ship ecosystems, or high stakes.
