Wow. I like Picoult, but I never knew this book would be so good since the first 50 pages or so drag a little and don't seem to give you an idea of where the story is going. But once it starts to all click, it becomes one of those books you can't put down for a second. By far, one of her best books, if not THE best.

I honestly didn't know that this story was about WWII. I liked the different point of views in this story. Other books I have read relating to WWII have never talked about the solider aspect. I can't say that I enjoyed it because it honestly made me so sad. I wanted to discard the book because I didn't think I could bare to hear the story. Luckily, I stuck with it and like previous experiences reading JP books, I was surprised by the twist at the end. Not quite so surprised because I finally saw the hint that something was wrong! Wonderfully written!
Like so many others, I was a huge fan of Jodi Picoult's earlier books, but then found her writing got terribly formulaic and predictable. I haven't enjoyed her most recent work, abandoning several books halfway through. This book caught my eye at my public library, so I decided to give it a chance. And I did enjoy it; the middle third stays with one point-of-view for a long time (as opposed to her often switching narrators), and I felt that the writing was well done, given the very challenging subject matter (WWII concentration camp). This is not a book I would highly recommend per se, but it was one that I did finish and that kept my attention throughout -- a lukewarm review, yes.
I could not get into this book, so it went back tot he library
This story wrecked me. I felt so much for each character, everyone was so well developed and still, I want more, I want closure. Emotionally, it was a hard read for me, but I couldn’t stop reading.
