This is the first novel I’ve read by this author-I enjoyed the story telling and level of detail paid to all aspects of the story both beautiful and horrific…but there is one relationship that felt too much like a snarky rom-com and it really did not intrigue me and it felt rushed in an otherwise well paced novel.

4/5 stars. Long overdue but finally listened to this 18 hour-long audiobook. It was fantastic, thought-provoking, and a difficult read overall. It was very well done, including its narration. I recommend for anyone interested in historical fiction, specifically WWII and the Holocaust.

Minke’s story was harrowing and not easy to listen to. However, I’m not sure the inclusion of the vampire story was necessary, unless it’s used as a metaphor.
