This was a very interesting story from several viewpoints dealing with WWII. I enjoy this book. The author is a great story teller and kept me enthralled until the end. I would recommend this book.
medium-paced

I'm 22 now and have been reading books by Jodi since I was 16, when I first read a book that became my favorite of her's. I never thought that another of her books top that one, but this book proved me wrong. This book changes from modern day protagonist Sage to the story of her grandmother Minka, a Holocaust survivor. Sage works in a bakery and meets a man named Josef at a grief group, where Josef makes a strange request asking her to kill him. What Sage doesn't know is that Josef has a connection to her grandmother's past.

I could not stop reading this book! This was the stereotypical stay up all night book for me, and whenever I had a spare moment on break from work or at home I whipped this out to finish it in no time! A MUST read for any Jodi Picoult fan!

I debated 4 or 5 stars. Definitely 4.5 stars. To be fair, I really do like stories about World War II that are about how the people survived. It makes me appreciate how good I currently have it. I picked this book for my book group last year, but since I ended up not being able to attend that meeting, I didn't finish it then, but had it on my to be read pile for quite a while.

This story took a little while to hook me, although whenever I would read it, I liked it and wanted to find out what happened - I just kept getting distracted by other books I had to read. By the middle of the book, though, I couldn't put it down and ended up staying up WAY past my bedtime to finish it. Luckily it was a Friday night, so I didn't have to go to work in the morning.

There were things that bothered me about the book - I saw the "twist" coming from a mile away, I thought the "romance" was a little unrealistically quick to happen, some other "coincidences" that may or may not have been explained; however I was definitely emotionally drawn into the grandmother's story, and I liked the somewhat ambiguous ending within the context of the entire story.

I'm really sorry I missed the book group discussion because I think it was probably quite interesting and would have given me a lot to think about.
