A decent quick listen. Good enough to keep your attention.
This was one of the surprises of 2023 because I enjoyed this book a little bit to much. This book is a solid book that I couldn’t put down for a while. It had me hooked, I loved how the author knew how to manage the pace and with tension making it a brilliant book to read this month. I love the eerie town vibes and the ambiance of this book. It took me lots of effort know what was reality and what wasn’t but in general was a solid good book and definetly will be reading more works from the author. Thanks to the authors, quirky books and NetGalley for the access to this ARC

this was so bad. the writing was just awful. from too many metaphors that didn't make sense to genuinely just bizarre comparisons (picking flesh from her bones like fried chicken) to the continuous use of the structure if only he could think straight, he would... or if he had been able to stop for a minute and think, he wouldn't... just. boring. repetitive. the descriptions were awful, including the setting, but the most annoying part was for me that, for example, we're shown that clay is having his chest sliced open with metal cans, and he's the one describing it, it's his pov, but only two or three paragraphs later we get any mention of him feeling pain, and he's supposedly in agony.
the plot was inconsistent and it felt like half-way in, the author still didn't know where they wanted to take it. i saw someone say that it was only written for shock value and the only thing the author put actual thought into was the gore, and i agree.
the dog was the best - and the only likable - character. the one star is for me for finishing the book.
