Super dark and way more gory than I was expecting. Also, lots of similes. Like, almost too many. Every other sentence was a description of something, then “as if” + some comparison. I have to say that I kind of hated Dylan the moment she gave up on looking for Slade. I get the logic. I do. But fuck her. Thankfully, he was okay in the end, otherwise I would’ve rated lower.
Also, I’m not sure I really understood the premise of the story itself. So the land itself is alive? Because it’s described as being hungry, salivating, etc. So why are there ghosts? Ghosts of those people from the 1700s, of the teens from the 80s, and now the little hiking crew. And why are said ghosts cannibals and set on murdering? And what about the endless bottle of moonshine (side note, who would EVER find a random bottle in the woods and think, yeah, I will take a sip of this alcohol known for its hallucinogenic properties???)? And the man with the hatchet? I feel like maybe this was trying to be too many things, which is why it didn’t work as well as it could have.
I suppose the ending was as good as it could’ve been. Part of me wanted Dylan to survive and make it out, but the ending made sense with her character (i.e., being obsessed with rocks and climbing).
Overall, a creepy, dark read. I liked that it was quick to get through, but the implied explanation of why the land was so horrible was a little too complicated that the story itself wasn’t very satisfying.

Too boring, characters were unlikable, I didn't feel any reason to care about this story.

Storyline just isn’t for me. Decent writing, great descriptions of mild gore, really good at making you feel disgust

I went into this expecting a good story, and I’m just disappointed that the author didn’t explain more about what was driving all the nonsense in the woods. Each of the characters had their problems, and tbh Luke should’ve kept his you know what at home. He seemed to be the only semi-sane one and ending up going out with a bang when Dylan killed him . The ending felt odd, somewhat poetic but also could’ve ended better.
