This book really embodies the phrase 'Go girl give us nothing'. What a messy book. Summary of my thoughts:
Bad writing. Repeating phrases.
Well-written gory scenes
Terrible plain dialogue.
Underdeveloped characters.
Boring plot.
Unspecifed antagonist. We never get answers if it's ghosts, or a cursed land, or both, or maybe evil plants/mushrooms. Could it be something else, or all of the above?
I'm giving it 2 stars because it's a debut novel. Otherwise it would be zero.

irdk how i felt about this, i brought this for atmosphere on my camping road trip but the crazy shit is it was taking place where i was and i started reading it AFTER following coordinates to a mildly unknown rock face for bouldering in livingston kentucky and getting so scared we had to turn back and bail on the trip…. the road wasnt even on google maps… but then we went to red river gorge and camped at miguels…. talk about atmospheric reading lmao

Meh. The only thing fresh about this book was the rock climbing aspect, and that's not my niche.

nearly got myself into a bad reading slump. 😭 it's been a while since i felt like that about a horror book.
i didn't manage to connect with any of the characters whatsoever. they all felt completely one-dimensional and didn't have personalities to them at all.
i only really cared about slade the dog lol but even that didn't prevent me from being done with this.
the writing style was also weak. at the beginning it felt like the author was trying to cram as many words as possible just for the sake of word count instead of actually trying to write in a way that would be engaging and interesting. that was one of the main reasons why i couldn't continue with the book anymore, i just couldn't get past the writing style.
the dialogue also was at times cringy.
i only managed to get to 27% before i decided to put it down and spoil myself. i'm glad about that cos the things that happened weren't even worth continuing for in my opinion, the "twists" didn't end up doing anything for me.
sad to say i can't recommend this to anyone and i understand now why people ain't vibing with this book. it definitely ain't for me.

At a certain point there’s no real plot just descriptions of people lost in the woods with various types of gross things happening to them.
