Dr. No was campy, funny and suitably silly - I listened to this as an audiobook which translated the dryness of the humour very well and brought some genuine chuckles throughout.

Although overall an enjoyable read with an interesting premise, the character-driven narrative seemed to come at the expensive of a cohesive plot - the author seemed to have a lot of balls in the air by the end of the book and struggled to synthesise them, leaving one feeling a little dissatisfied (not so much at the ending itself, which I personally found extremely amusing -moreso the feeling of the narrative being somewhat unwoven and left untethered).

I'm not sure I quite got what this book was going for, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the vibe. I wouldn't say it was laugh-out loud funny but I found the characters endearing and it kept me reading. I did find some of the more mathematical parts and continous mentioning of nothing to be a tad tedious though. I kinda feel like the mathematics here don't really matter, but perhaps that's the point.  Perhaps if I was more well versed in Bond films and spy movies in general I'd understand it better, otherwise it all seemed to amount to nothing.

But then this is a story about nothing, so that's fitting.

Gosh, I haven't come across an ending that was equal parts brilliant and infuriating (and bizarre...?) in a long time. This was just plain fun -- and has me itching to pick up a math textbook!
