I would give it a 5, but "the beast in the cave" story feels off (i didn't enjoy the story nor the art)

Sadly, this was almost unbearably boring to me. Too many new characters that I couldn't get interested in. 2.5/5

I was really enjoying the series up until this volume. This one was just okay. The storyline of the Greaser who fights vampires was way too long. The car chase was dragged on, and on, and it just felt repetitive. Also, I really dislike when guest artists are brought in to work on issues because their art is never as good as the original artist.

I liked the 50's setting and the callback to the first (I think) volume. I like that what seems random comes back to make sense in some way. Great storytelling. This particular volume wasn't my favorite, though
I was happy to see that Sweet wasn't dead. I don't know what to say. He makes me laugh.

It's not all bad, but it's clearly not the bad ass old school vampire comic book I was hoping for, The first volumes were a little bit more of what I was expecting, but it's just fall apart in this one and I just don't enjoying it. There is less and less vampire and less and less darkness. So I'm out.

A plea by a band of Native North Americans to their version of a blood god goes unheard in the first tale in this volume. Another in the list of the deadly adventures of Skinner Sweet, said first tale almost inspired me to put down this book- I've never been one for "westerns." Luckily, I begrudgingly continued and met Travis, the clever hunter sporting wooden fangs so that he can "bite back." The final series of stories finished even stronger than previous volumes with the introduction of Poole- a black hybrid vampire hunting for Morning Star while also navigating the racially charged South. All-in-all, this was one of my favorite books in the series so far.

There were three stories in this volume and I enjoyed them all!

Pre-vampire Skinner Sweet and his childhood friend Jim Book, , 50's greaser vampire-hunter Travis Kidd and his badass hot rod, and lastly Calvin Poole living life as a black vampire in the 60's.

We were all over the place, time-wise, in this one, but that was cool because the times were interesting. Also, Skinner Sweet wasn't in this one all that much, which I thought was a good thing.

I do wish we got to see more of Pearl and Henry, but what we did see has me stoked for the next volume, which luckily is sitting there waiting for me on my reading table at home. Onward!

These may not be the best graphic novels ever, but I sure am enjoying the hell out of them just the same.
