Synopsis:
Derf attended Revere high school with Jeffery Dahmer. Yes the serial killer.

The graphic novel follows them along through high school as they become friends and them go their separate ways.

Derf and his friends seem to notice Dahmer and take him under their wing. He starts to act weirdly, which they poke fun at at first, but soon decide he is a little too weird for their liking.

I know of Dahmer as the serial killer but this graphic novel gave him human qualities. I really do wonder if he would have turned out the way he did if his life wasn’t in shambles and he had gotten the help he needed. I *think* I feel a bit sorry for teen Dahmer.

I read this for my office book club. I really enjoyed it because it told the story of Jeffrey Dahmer in a new and compelling way from the point of view of someone who actually knew him. This story sparked a lot of debate in our book club. Could the loneliness, isolation and bullying have led to what Dahmer did? who knows. BUT I will say I think Derf is actually a big jerk and shouldn't have named the book "my FRIEND Dahmer." You weren't his friend, Derf. You were a bully. And there is no mention of Derk admitting "yeah, I shouldn't have done this." No we shouldn't pity Dahmer. What he did was OBVIOUSLY awful. But Derf and his group of friends were bullies.
