This book follows the stories of Shekiba and Rahima as they navigate life as women in Afghanistan about 100 years apart. The most heartbreaking thing with reading stories like this, is to see even though there is much time between them, their role in society has barely changed. Women are still seen as inferior to men, and just property to their husbands. I truly felt for all the hardships that Shekiba and Rahima had to go through. I liked both story lines, but I enjoyed Shekiba's more at the beginning and Rahima's more at the end. This is not a full 5 stars because there were some parts that dragged and felt a little choppy.
