This book was a lot of fun! Since it is set in Florida, it had a lot of familiar flora, fauna, and cultural references. It is a credit to Hiaasen's writing style that I was able to enjoy something with such a crew with unlikable traits. After an interesting and winding set up, the ending wasn't very strong, and some of the Piejack scenes started to drag. Several reviewers note this as their least favorite of his books which makes me interested in picking up some of his other works. 2018 Pop Sugar Reading Challenge - A bestseller from the year you graduated high school

I found the book entertaining as something to read when you are just relaxing and not wanting something intense or serious.
Being from florida this sounds like people I know, from mentally disturbed yet lovable Honey, to her normal yet responsible 12 year old son, to her loving ex-husband with a criminal past and a hand in politics (could be a real Miami mayor). Yes, the characters are almost people I know. Which is either really funny, or really sad. Ha.
The reader of the Audible book created voice variations for some of the characters which was a nice addition.
Honey is mistreated on a call and she cannot let it go, and takes steps to make sure this telemarketer knows how terrible his behavior really was. Tracking him down online, turning the tables on him. It’s almost what you wish you had the energy and insanity to do.
Not award winning literature but a fun read. Especially if you know real life rednecks and Indians.

Funny. Carl Hiassen still has it. But I do wonder if he is looking in my families windows. He always comes up with the oddest characters. :)

This book was hard to rate. The characters were interesting, but not enough to really feel a lot of empathy towards them.
The story was also different and so I kept listening. But, some of it was still predictable. I could have walked away from this book without it killing me to find out the ending, and for me that is a bad sign.
I should give this 2.5 probably.

This was a perfect airplane book. And a we-just-moved-and-I-want-to-read-something-light book. It's what you buy when you're at the airport and you realize you packed all your books in your checked luggage and that this is the first flight where your baby might actually sleep long enough for you to read some...

Audio version: After listening to this, I wonder why I waited so long to listen to a Carl Hiaasen book! This book is as funny as most of the reviewers say it is. The characters are so much fun and they draw you in with their authenticity and quirkiness. I especially love the women in this book. They've got moxie. It lagged a bit towards the end and I felt like it could have been wrapped up a bit sooner, but it did wrap things up nicely. I'm looking forward to listening to another of this author's books, and hope it's narrated by the same narrator, William Roberts. He was fabulous!
