I’m on a mother/ family stories kick. This is definitely a family story- some sadness some strife, some maddening drama and trauma. Story within the story was a little strange, but at the end we understand how it can play together in the book as a whole.
I appreciated the siblings storyline, as well as the dynamics at work for mothers.
Anne is a beautiful writer, woven in is the depiction of the times, the feelings of the people and the workings of dis function in a family.
Overall enjoyable without any excitement.

This book was a slow moving book. It tells the history of a family but it doesn't grab the reader.

Great portrait of an American family, but I was left wanting more - and not in a good way! The ending ruined the whole book.

Another lovely novel by Tyler, beautifully read by the audiobook narrator. Farr's accents are fantastic and really help distinguish the characters.

I wasn't sure about the story, as the first section deals with aging parents and I wasn't overly connected to the characters. Yet, I need to remember to have more faith in Tyler. Future parts go back in time (except for the last one that wraps everything up), each one digging a little deeper in the past. Instead of the reverse timeline rehashing things I already know, each one uncovered slivers that made me reconsider what I'd read previously. This book is a master class in writing a novel that goes backward in time.
