This was a much slower read than the first one, until it wasn't. The last 100 pages felt very fast. It felt like much more time was covered than the text warranted.

I have to really give this series credit for it’s realistic view on staging an actual revolution. This second book is solid. 4.5 stars

It’s very political and adventurous, definitely don{the read it if you want funny characters or heavy romance in the plot. I do love the series and the magical system. It definitely was well developed. I do like the main character and the was some representation in the book ,which was good. I did love the advancement of the plot. I think these series are very interesting and kinda remind me of the Huger Games but make it historical. Also the book easy to read, but still supports the old French times and illustrates the setting well. I would love some powerful women characters though. Even though Sophie is very strong and intuitive and I love her, but sometimes she is to lenient or I would say compliment. I felt like maybe giving her a little more spirit would spice up the character, but I guess her role as a woman in 1600 would be not as fitting. I do Love me some Theodor, especially albatros part, the cutest thing.

I love the intersection of period fashion, magic, and populism in this series! Bummed about the cat though
