This book was FANTASTIC.

I was given the opportunity to read this book with an advanced reader copy from #netgalley. I did not know when I requested it, that it was the same author of In An Instant, a title I read - and loved - last year.

Around a third of the way there, I kept thinking of that other story I had read, but couldn’t pull enough details together to definitely tie it together. That said, if you have NOT read In An Instant, don’t worry. You don’t need to in order to enjoy Moment in Time. It doesn’t hurt though!

A moment in time had characters that were so relatable and likable that the reader truly becomes immersed in the story. There are also characters who hardly warrant a mention but are told with such heart that you experience them too, a ripple in a pond. The characters who are so repugnant you immediately think the worst of is there too, of course, and they are also written with carefully created details that make it just palatable enough to question their guilt.

Overall, the book is masterful and I highly recommend it. Especially if you enjoyed In An Instant!

I’m glad that I read the author's note because I’m now determined to read Hunter's story as well!

Book 1 of 2022, thank you #netgalley #arc #suzanneredfearn #momentintime

I was so excited to read this book because I LOVED In An Instant! And this book didn’t disappoint. It deals with some pretty heavy subject matter but it’s written well. And it brings attention to something that really needs to be dealt with. I can almost envision how I would react if I were found in a similar situation. There were a few times I wanted to scream at Mo and Chloe for acting stupid but what characters don’t upset you from time to time.

Definitely would recommend this book.

After reading the author’s note, I’m going to need to read Hadley and Grace to get Hunter’s story

Moment in Time is a gripping, troubling and incredibly relevant story about sexual assault, victim-blaming, and the role of media in our society.

Suzanne Redfearn addresses the harsh reality women face while confronting the medical, media and justice systems after being victims of such assaults. Following the three main characters Mo, Chloe and Hazel's journey to self-recovery and justice was truly enlightening yet infuriating.

It was hard putting this book down with such an intriguing and fast-paced storyline. The characters were diverse, complex and relatable, though I could not necessarily agree with or understand their actions throughout the novel. Their relationships and the final plot twist could also have been more believable. Nevertheless, Moment in Time was a unique story that I enjoyed from beginning to end.

*I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

Picking up with Chloe and Mo, who have aged eight years after we last saw them, was such a treat. These two women are such well written characters. Having experienced tragedy in the past, it’s not surprising when a horrific situation arises that these women band together to make things right. Unfortunately things go horribly wrong. You can’t help but root for these women to prevail.
At its heart this story is about good overcoming evil and examines the idea of seeking revenge. With her insightful writing, Redfearn raises awareness of the real life horror of victims being “roofied.” The compelling tale kept me on the edge of my seat and is one I recommend. I believe readers will enjoy it more if they have read “In an Instant,” but it could also be read as a stand alone. Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I couldn't put this book down, but I still rounded down from 3.5 stars to 3.

I think part of the reason why was because I had not read In An Instant first. Throughout this book, Chloe is constantly referring to the accident that changed her life 8 years ago. There are SO MANY references to this without a lot of detail about what happened. It wasn't until I finished the book that I realized there was a whole book devoted to this accident and this is why it isn't described. However, it really took away from the reading experience of this book. While this is technically a stand-alone, I think it would be much more enjoyable if you have read In An Instant (and there are characters from her other two books as well).

I also didn't understand the drama between Mo and Kyle. Mo is constantly worried about not telling him this big secret, and to be honest, at no point did I understand what she was hiding. She told him what happened and her truth... what more was there? I don't know if I just missed this, but again, it was something that was harped on in the book that I didn't get.

The story itself is compelling. I feel like the author did a great job of writing about a really tough topic and I did want to know what was going to happen. There was a bit of poor decision making (more than a bit, to be fair) and an insta-love story (not my favorite). But I liked the author's writing and I am going back to read In an Instant.

Disappointing. The story felt like there was no resolution. It dido t make sense. And it was too bad, because I like the characters and the direction of the story, but big disappointment at the end.

After living through a tragedy as teenagers, Mo and Chloe have a closer than ever bond. As twenty-something adults they now live together along with their roommate, Hazel. While each woman is starkly different from the next, they are always there for each other.

One night while out at a bar, Hazel’s drink is spiked, resulting in a sexual assault. Making a bad situation worse, the girls know who did it, but keep hitting a wall when it comes to finding solid proof. In the meantime, the studious and serious Hazel is forever changed, setting out on a self discovery of sorts. Now it’s up to the girls to face life’s challenges together again, but can they save Hazel from herself and bring the perpetrator to justice before it’s too late?

I did not know going in that this book was a sequel of sorts to Redfearn’s immensely popular, In An Instant. I didn’t read that book, so that might be part of the reason why I didn’t connect with the snippets of backstory or understand their significance in relation to this one. It also features characters from other books she’s written, a true love letter to diehard fans of the author.

But if I’m being honest, despite all this, the book felt a little too all over the place for me. There was the decidedly serious tone of the assault, but this was coupled with career woes, new love, old love and even a stray dog serving as a main character. (The stray, Ruby, was my favorite character by the way, but I digress). It felt like the story kept losing focus, akin to keeping a dog on the path when it’s out for a walk. At times it wasn’t a whodunnit type of page turner, but rather a “what is happening next because I have no idea where this is going!?” type of story. It held my interest, but just like moments themselves, my thoughts on this one are sure to be fleeting in the long run.
