This is an enjoyable read. Take a fantasy world, make it a bit Urban fantasy with some Noir edge and a touch of Cowboy Westerns, and you get this story. This was walking a fine line between god and kitchen-sink writing (where too much is added) but just missed.
Overall, this is a good short story to lead into a longer, bigger work.

This was our first Forbeck book. My husband and I read it together. It was short, but a good story. It was a sci-fi style murder-mystery style book and one that left us looking forward to reading more of his books.
