I put most content warnings under “graphic” but I’m not sure how to categorize them. It’s not graphic in the sense of detailed descriptions of specific occurrences of each topic necessarily, but there are extensive discussions about these topics as a whole. Also, the chapters are fairly independent so not all CWs appear in all or even many chapters.

Hugely informative and beautifully written. Kendall brilliantly interweaves personal anecdotes with critical race theory.  I need to read it again to get the full effect.

I love how the author used personal stories to support and give life to statistics. The audiobook was read by the author and you could feel her emotions coming though, very impactful.  The subtle and blatant call out of specific white “feminists” was almost cathartic. A very important book.

Absolutely required reading for anyone looking to get a more intersectional (strong focus on Black and poor perspectives) look on feminism. Very USA-centric, but inspiration to do research into how these issues manifest in my own country as well. The writing occasionally repeats itself, but I didn't mind. 10/10 would recommend!

As someone who's pretty well versed in feminism in general and Black feminism/womanism in particular, I didn't really find much of the information in this groundbreaking or revelatory. That being said, to a lot of others, it might be. I'd recommend this to someone who is just learning about feminism or who hasn't had much experience with WOC feminism. I thought the author did an excellent job of mixing research, care, and personal experiences.
