"Everything is lies, and nobody is who they seem"

Everything is Lies is my first Callaghan's book and surprisingly this one is a decent mystery thriller book.

The story is told from 2 different POVs; Sophia's POV for the present day and Nina's notebook for past days.

Sophia finds her mom (Nina) committed suicide and her dad (Jared) is in coma. She tries to prove that someone else wants to kill her parents. Then, she discovers Nina's notebook. This kind of storyline reminds me of Verity by CoHo, where the main antagonist read a deceased notebook or journal.

The story is fast-paced and easy to follow. I love Nina's POV more since it's all about CULT. The cult group is sinister and spooky.

As for the character's arc, Sophia is the only well-developed character, while the others are just mehhh. Sophia is an independent woman who lives in city, and brave enough to confront polices and the other cult members. While her mom, Nina is kind of weak woman, suffering from insecure and become easy prey. I find Aaron, the cult leader is a deluded control freak and narcissistic.

Everything in Lies has a surprising plot, unfortunately, I hate the ending.

A decent read.

3.5* A good read but some bits dragged a little bit and some was unbelievable. This is my first book by this author and I will read more.

When Sophia discovers that her parents had been burglarised and murdered she doesn't understand anything. Why? Her parents were good people and never did any harm. But then, she discovered some notebooks her mother wrote and learnt that everything was a lie... Ready?

As we start reading this book we don't know what to expect, there are a lot of secrets hidden in the past of Sophia's parents, but enough to kill for something that happened a long time ago? Page after page we discover all that Sophia's parents hide from her; with an absorbing diary full of unexpected stories, but again, enough to kill someone?
This is an intense and atmospheric read, that everything points to an amazing discovery, but what starts with frightening the read is if after Sophia discovers the truth, will she be the next victim? Because after reading the notebooks, the paranoia seems to start hunting Sophia... or is the grieve talking? I've read a lot of books where the main character thinks is being followed but no one believes them, let me say that if it ever happens this to me, I hope my loved ones at least will try to discover the truth instead of ignoring me, because you never know who could be following you... or in this case Sophia... Who could be following her? So many questions...
Ready for a book full of drama, mystery and twists?

When Sophia gets a phone call from her mother asking her to come home she dismisses it and carries on with her evening out in London. Travelling to the family home and business Sophia is shocked to find her mother dead and her family severely injured. The police think is is a suicide and attempted murder but Sophia is not so sure. Delving into her mother's past Sophia is shocked to find out her mother's secrets.

Despite myself I really enjoyed this book, it shouldn't really work for me but it does. There are many plot lines to follow, Sophia's work, the mystery of what happened to her parents and the tales of excess from 30 years ago. Most of them are wrapped up neatly although I found the plot line around Sophia's work a little too neat. At least Callaghan avoided a happy family reconciliation at the end!

27 year old Sophia receives an anxious phone call from her mother asking her to come home. However, Sophia refuses as she is over the alcohol limit and promises to come over the next day. Upon returning, she discovers an horrific sight - her mother has seemingly killed herself and her father is lying injured on the ground. This sets Sophia off on a journey that she could never expect. Her mother has been writing a book about her time in a cult before Sophia was born and Sophia could never expect what she was going to learn.
This book was NOT what I was expecting at all! It was very well written and although I had an inkling to the end result, the pace of the book still kept me hooked. I was not expecting the cult element! It was very gripping and I really recommend a read! There are a few triggers so be cautious.
