Listened to the audio book with my son. Enjoyed it as much as the movie.
This is a book that I think will be read one hundred years from now. This is for me, that rare occurrence of a contemporary novel that has the style and substance of a classic. I belong to a book club of a diverse group of women, often someone will love a book, someone else in the group will hate. This book was one of those rare rare selections that we all loved.
Loved it. Started reading it after the movie. Found some parts of it to be long especially around the middle. Also found some parts to be too graphic but I guess that is the nature of survival. I loved the report by the insurance investigators.
It really is a triumph of the human spirit. It shows to what lengths a person will go to survive not only physically but mentally and spiritually as well.

I loved the magical moments of this book: when he loves God and stands by that as a child, when he catches the color-changing dorado, when lightning strikes a wave. I also loved the premise, the narrative structure, and the little tidbits of story within stories. I really loved the ending, and will probably be pondering it for a while. What made this a 4/5 instead of a 5 was how the first two parts of the book seem so disconnected; Pi is such a religious young boy, but doesn't seem to reflect on it at all while drifting at sea. I wish there was more continuity in his character.

I finished this over a year ago but felt the need to write this review. I think about Pi and Richard Parker a little bit every day and ask myself if this story can really make one believe in God. The God of the Life of Pi, Pi, and Richard Parker will always have a place in my heart. Their sorrow and victory against a cruel uncaring wilderness is the stuff of legend. Minus one star bc I don’t know if I do believe in god even if I do believe Pi’s story.
