Lisa See does it again -- she really has a brilliant way of immersing her reader into the culture of her novels. While I didn't love the actual storyline of this as much as Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (which is one of my all-time favorite novels), I really found myself fascinated with the intricacies of the Akha people and wanting to learn more about Chinese minority culture, tea in general and Pu'er in specific. That is the genius of Lisa See. Her writing is effortless and it's always a pleasure reading her work. I wanted more of this book and was sad when it was over.

#2018readharder A book set in or about one of the five BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, or South Africa)

Wow!!! What an incredible story!! This book delivered sucker punch after sucker punch but I still couldn’t wait to pick it back up again. The author delivered an incredibly emotional tale while simultaneously delivered such an informative look into Chinese, specifically Akha culture! I am impressed by the painstaking research that clearly went into writing this. This book is another example of how to write about another ethnicity’s culture and traditions respectfully and studiously.

It felt like I read two seperate books. The first half of this book was gripping, tragic, heartbreaking, and I could not put it down. Then it took a turn, feeling kind of like a Cinderella story in the worst ways. *spoilers* **After so much adversity, she kind of stumbles into marrying a millionaire and owning a highly successful business.**

The book quickly lost its edge and I lost interest. I carried on hoping for a redeeming ending, but the ending fell flat.

I would give the first half of the book 4, maybe 4.5 stars, the second half 2 stars, and the ending 1 star.

When you hear that The Tea Girl Of Hummingbird Lane is abouts tea, you may be inclined to think dull thoughts. However, the world of tea provides an engrossing and heart-warming backdrop to Lisa See's story.

The use of language as the protagonist ages was interesting, beginning with simplistic language to more complex, hybrid vocabulary.

I found the characters engaging and well-developed. Everything for them was well paced and the 'necessary' coincidence was created in a realistic way.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I must recommend it.
