Holy shit! So much going on... So many relationship twists and turns. World's changing and I can sense the last book will be a real tissue box book... damn I wish I had read the original series now.... Definitely going to that next

The saga continues…

Still enjoying but taking a day or two break before I dive into the next one.

A few things I will say:

I have a few unexpected character favorites, like Teddy - lol, and Mercy and Serena.

The Alpha Maleness gets a little out of hand in this book, with the Me Man (Monkey) = Me Protect Woman vibes, so there were some serious eye rolls happening. I think if you regularly read KA then you should expect a little though. Shout out to True, who was the only man from this book I’d stomach IRL.

There is a lot of explicit spice, though I would say it isn’t HOT/sizzling to me, so I wouldn’t read this for that. I feel it’s more about the characterization and plot bordering on romantic fantasy. The story is where it’s at.

I think the narrators are NAILING it. Kudos to them.

Also there is a lot of “rape is bad” rhetoric which is good obviously, but if you’ve read Golden Dynasty of the Fantasyland series, you’ll be thinking of how awkward it is to have Lan in those scenes. He could have been in the other room, or mentioned that his people abolished the traditional of the wife hunt or something more than keeping mum, so a little cringe, but oh well. Can’t have everything.

Overall still enjoying!

Okay - heading to audible to download the next one so I have it when I’m ready to commit to a listening marathon.

The Rising series just gets better with each new installment! The narration is so vivid (thanks to the narrators in part! I love that they use different accents for different characters).

The overall plot moved forward a lot in this third novel, and the stakes were suddenly higher than anticipated.

Too much sex. Every chapter either starts or ends with a sex scene. Or both.

The plot is still running around in circles. I can not say it's dragging since something is always happening but the plot, in general, takes very minor steps (if we compare it to the number of pages).

Honestly, I am thinking daily about giving up, but since there is only one more book I might as well read it. IDK if anything happens that can surprise me or make this whole series feel less mediocre. :/

Things heat up and the prophecy starts taking shape and unrest within the kingdoms threatens to bring war. Some major red flags for some characters with the promise of new allies from the sea. That's right. Mermaids are getting added to the mix.
This is a very exciting series with lots of fun characters and political intrigue. I still want more swords and fireballs thrown into the mix and less lovers quarrels, but I'm desperate to know how things will end.
