4/5 ⭐
3/5 🌶️

**Tropes**
-FMC on the run
-Morally dubious MMC (one of)

📖 **My Thoughts**
Short and sweetish, she's on the run because of her past living in a rural area. World is based on Earth but each contient or country seems to be a new planet with an Queen ruling them all. I liked all the characters and liked the build between the throuple.

⚠️ **Triggers**
-Assault
-Bondage
-Violence

 **Representation**
Throuple + open relationships. I liked how it was written

🌶️ **Spice**
Spice is frequent and good.

Strong female lead

Joely's female characters are always so dang strong. Charlotte is no exception. A super smart scientist on the run and relationships that are excited to read about. Not my typical read, but I did enjoy it!

Space Opera mixes with Historical Romance. I am not a Sci-Fi/Fantasy reader, but this one was so much fun. I'm quite in love with our MC's and I'd be happy to take tea with any of them.

It just wasn’t exciting for me. It felt very slow and too science fiction-y.

I like the blending of scifi with Regency. It could have been a bit longer, but a very enjoyable story.

Charlotte, Duchess of Wyre has hidden on the Americus colony for seven years. But is she still safe from the wrath of the Queen. Events unfold but will the combination of scientist, a sheriff, and an assassin be enough.
An enjoyable story

A bit of a sad excuse for a book, really. Take one beautiful, poised, smart, articulate, and technology-inspired aristocratic lady and place her firmly in the middle of a love triangle with two very different types of men, one dashing aristocratic assassin and the other a rugged lawman. It will invariably - to no one's shock - end as some ridiculous roll-your-eyes ménage à trois. Ugh. I don't count this as a spoiler because it is soooo obvious from the beginning that this is where it was going to end up.

The premise sounded so good and the writing style was lovely as well so it is quite sad to see how utterly ridiculous this story ended up being. I don't see any Jane Austen in this - and I absolutely adore Pride and Prejudice - but rather an excuse to use that name to draw Jane Austen x fantasy/sci-fi fans in to pick up this book. But towards what end? Some smuttier version of an uninspired Regency Romance space opera? Sorry to say but no thanks; I'm gonna have to pass on this one. I'm giving this two stars rather than one because at least the writing style was polished enough that it wasn't a horror to read. Just frivolous.

I really wanted to like this book. The worldbuilding is silly, but in a way that doesn't bother me--it's basically Firefly with an overlay of the Revolutionary War but with women in power. I went into this basically expecting crackfic (to borrow a term from the fanfic world--my favorite kind of fanfic is crackfic).

Sadly, it wasn't to be and for some pretty big reasons.

First of all, people become kinky in ways that don't involve their being abused by a parent. It really bothered me that Lord Regret wanted Lady Wyre to tie him up before having sex with him because his mother used to tie him up so he wouldn't be able to prevent her from abusing his father. There may be some people out there who are kinky for reasons stemming from childhood abuse, but the vast majority of kinky people are kinky because...they're kinky. Not because they are damaged goods or abnormal or sick.

Second of all, I disliked the rampant homophobia in the resolution of the love triangle between Lady Wyre, Lord Regret, and Sheriff Masters. Bothe Regret and Masters agree to both be in a relationship with Wyre, but only if she doesn't expect them to ever have sex with each other. I'm not saying that the male characters had to be bisexual (although it would have added a nice little bit of conflict!), but to explicitly come right out and say that they are 100% straight and have absolutely no desire to do anything sexual with each other just rubbed me completely the wrong way.

Also, if you blink you'll miss the BDSM. Seriously. Lady Wyre ties Regret up twice and has PIV sex with him and that's the sum total of the BDSM (and for some people I know that's super-edgy but for me it really isn't) so if you're expecting something a bit spicier, you'd do better to go elsewhere.
