Wow. Okay. So I usually try to keep my reviews more positive but this book was something else.

I read this book because I’m a romance author. It was recommended to me as a masterclass in “subtle” s** scenes. That is wrong.

This book is more like a class in s**ual horror. It makes Lolita look pretty chill. I don’t think a single one of the stories involved socially acceptable s** scenes, or if it did, they didn’t stay in that realm for very long.

It’s also got some pretty awful racism… but honestly I almost forgot about that stuff bc the s** stuff was so messed up.

Anyway to each their own. If Lolita is your style, then you’ll enjoy this book. It’s a very interesting look at s**… Nin certainly has a unique perspective. If you’re on the fence about reading it, I would encourage you to look up information about the author before reading.

Definitely a unique read about outlandish s** in an era that I thought was squeamish about that sort of thing.

Wtf did I subject my eyes to. I have many regrets. Unfortunatley, reading this book is on my TOP 5 worst regrets of all time list.

this book is so short but took me many months to finally finish because everytime i picked it up i was transported to such a.. dark place. i hate to be that person without many words but the Vibes in this are really something else. i'm not sure if that's how nin wrote erotica or if it was the person she was writing these to.. what a darksided little book. at least when i finally decided to finish it today i was halfway through the story 'linda' which is one of the best ones, i was thinking all this (why is this book so dark will i ever be able to finish this) and then found myself enjoying linda and felt bad. but i do like the style of little else matters but desire. the stories change characters and setting in the middle of a paragraph and they end whenever they feel like it, it's not always about making sense or even telling you a proper story (though it does do that sometimes). overall i suppose it is meant to be vivid enough to get one off and in that sense it works.. even with stories blending this book feels so alive, for better or worse. it's not bad but i did feel off whenever i picked it up and so i could never read much of it at once lol. but now.. i am free!

Wowza, (fanning myself) great erotic writing.

Interested to see what people have to say about this in my feminism’s seminar. I haven’t reviewed a book this low (2 stars) in a long time.

Real score 3.89.

This made me uncomfortable most of the time; I thought that, maybe, Nin was trying to point out how some of this things are horrendous, but seeing as she actually had an incestuous relationship herself, I think she just found this erotic. I felt sick reading this.

I don't know how many stars to give to this book. I'm confused :))
