This book was absolutely amazing and exceeded my expectations. The smut was super spicy, and I loved the descriptions of the creatures and God. Really interesting concept, can wait to get books 2 and 3.

It wasn’t my favorite book of all time, but it was a good book. The plot kept me interested, although the ending seemed to drag on a bit to hit all the points the story needed to hit. But I didn’t hate it.
it’s the “babygirl” for me…but not in a good way
i went into this with high expectations, as id heard lots about it! harley is a figurehead in the dark romance genre, and their books are hyped in the booktok community
i did enjoy it…i liked the world-building, the plot, the tropes…but i didn’t love the characters much, especially rae, she just read as very impulsive and didn’t seem to care much for her own safety at all…im not opposed to an irrational character or one that is willing to risk themselves for their loved ones, but she just felt a bit naive and childish with her impulsive tendencies
and leon, a demon who falls in love with a human after knowing her for like a month…he’s immortal and yet he falls for her so quickly? and i’ll say it again…the babygirl pet name gave me the ick so hard
it’s crazy how one thing can make or break a reading experience

I did really enjoy reading this and loved Leon and Rae as a couple, but they make such idiotic choices over and over again (especially Rae) that I kept rolling my eyes and groaning while continuing to read. There were some confusing plot holes at the end as well (why does Kent let them go at the end? Why doesn’t Jeremiah kill Rae before throwing her into the mine? Why is this the generation that needs to be sacrificed?)
Even though Rae’s lack of self preservation is acknowledged as her primary personality trait, and it’s revealed that there is a (not well foreshadowed) reason she is that way, her sass towards Leon felt unearned because of it. And her reasons for not taking the bargain sooner seemed flimsy especially in the face of so many of her peers making bargains with seemingly no qualms. Truly the epitome of a TSTL heroine.
That said I did enjoy the writing, and still had a fun time; I’m interested in Juniper and Everly’s stories, and plan to continue with the other standalones in this series!

I hate to say I DNF. I have it two stars because the scenes I read were actually really hot but I can't take Rae. She ruined the book for me. How is it you know there are demons, constantly being attacked but don't believe people want to sacrifice you for a God. I see the hype but wasn't for me.
