Her Soul to Take

Every path I'd taken, every seemingly inconsequential decision, had led to this moment. The choice between two eternities, a choice that was mine alone. I'd chosen. I knew to whom my soul belonged, and it wasn't to a merciless God.
It belonged to another monster, a monster who had found me and protected me despite his darkness. It belonged to a demon who, even now, I knew was trying to reach me. To protect me, to save me. I stood up a little taller against the wall, even though I had never been so afraid.
Maybe this would be the day I died. Maybe this really was my fate. But in the end, the choice had still been mine. I'd found the deepest depths of this darkness and looked upon true horror. I'd fought every step of the way.
If I was going to die, then I would die still fighting.

It seems to me that the first aspect I should make clear is: when I came across this book and thought "why not?" it certainly wasn't with the expectation of finding such quality. I certainly didn't do it expecting this book to be so well written, for its plot to be so intricate, and for its words to sink into me as they did.
But here I am, totally in love with this book, with the characters in it, with its entire universe. To be honest, less than halfway through the book, I was struck by a literary hangover, To be honest, less than halfway through the book, I was struck by a reading slump, which, against all my will, prevented me from continuing the book with the same ferocity with which I had read it until then, only to read it again with the same, if not more, intensity about half a month later.
Since then, I have devoured the book and the story it contains, and I must say that I couldn't be less sorry. Isn't that the style of books I normally read? No. Since then, I have devoured the book and the story it contains, and I must say that I couldn't be less sorry. Is it the style of books I normally read? No. Does that make me like him less?Once again: no.

And here I leave you, with a passage that made me act like a thirteen-year-old obsessed with her classmate for about fifteen minutes straight.

"All I could think of was her. As I lay there, immortal magic molding back together this fleshy body, her face remained in my mind. She had come back. She had come after me. Damned stubborn woman. Couldn’t obey to save her own life. But she’d come back as if she...as if she could protect me. As if she could fight beside me. That alone made a little warmth come back to my chest. She was foolish as hell, but she — she loved me. She’d said it. It was almost laughable, because why would a woman so vibrant, so alive, love a monster from Hell? Why would she risk her life to come back for me, or offer her soul when I’d already given all I could to protect her, when I had nothing more to give in return? Love. Because she...loved me. How simple and silly that sounded. A four-letter word wasn’t enough to describe the desperation in me, the craving, the need to get back to her. It wasn’t enough to describe the absolute fury I’d turn on those who had taken her from me, who had dared to put their hands on her. And if they’d killed her… I’d destroy them all. I would hunt them down, every last one, every human who’d ever dared to give allegiance to the Libiri. I’d make them all beg for mercy, and give none. The murders that had earned me my reputation would be nothing in comparison to the slaughter I’d unleash on them. I had to believe she was still alive. I had to believe I still had time to save her."

4/5⭐

It was a recommendation. First time reading "demon d***k" book, but it matched with spooky goofy halloween vibe. It had some potential in the beginning with witchcraft and demonology, but it soon turned sloppy and sappy. Unproductive and unlikable heroine, constantly getting into annoying situations that needs rescuing.
What a missed opportunity that all off the characters don't come together for a grand finale and we're literally missed almost all of the final fight. I feel like the main female character gets in the way of everything. No magic/demon world building, no character development, insta love bull.

It was good! I forgot to add it to read when I finished it and I don’t remember much of what I thought of it other than enjoying it!

Wow… already I can tell the FMC is going to be TSTL. Plus, it was just horny thought after horny thought… I think I need plot with the horniness these days.
