Americana was so well written! I really enjoyed reading it but at times it got a bit boring or just hard to read. I think it’s an important book as it reflects on America in the early 2000’s and how the main character was treated by others. I also love how the romance in the book is a side plot and that the main plot is the main character trying to find herself.

This was a very interesting book with engaging characters and a plethora of views on being black in America. At times it felt as if the story tried to cover too much ground and I wasn't as interested in the male character who got little play compared to the female. However, I learned a lot from the book and enjoyed reading it.

2.5 stars. I wanted to love this book so much. But I just didn’t. I didn’t hate it, it was just … fine. I don’t know if it was timing or mood or life in general or what, but it took me AGES to finish and I just never fully got into it. Maybe at another time I’ll try it again, and I’m definitely not counting out other works by this author, but unpopular opinion, this one just didn't land for me.

I'm not sure how I felt about this book, and I don't know if that was the book or me. I enjoyed the story and reading from different perspectives, but I don't think this is a story that will stay with me. Ambivalent but I would maybe read again.
