Actually not bad, but somehow I don't care too much about the characters. Also the storyline has been done one too many times in romantic fantasy genre. A solid 3 stars.

Quick reaction: While this book was hardly what I expected, I enjoyed it immensely. Despite the name of the series, this novel is much more of a historical/paranormal romance with some steampunk elements. However, I thought the world and the story were well-drawn for being such a thing. The world is one in which pre-vampiric "blue bloods" are usually the elite of London. Becoming a thrall is a position of respectability, one young women are groomed for. However, the world isn't necessarily so glamorous on the blue blood side, as all must fight the inevitable decline to the fade, the point when the virus takes over and makes one a vampire--a bloodlust-controlled, truly monstrous being. After laying low for a number of months following her father's murder, Honoria gets summoned to see the master of her region, a notorious rogue blue blood. From there, the story continues at an enjoyable pace, with plenty of twists, obstacles, humor, trials, and a heaping dose of sexual tension. Overall, it was a rollicking good time.

I really enjoyed this one but just felt the character development and world building could have gone a bit further.

I loved the story. It was first and foremost a romance, and what a treat it was to find such a thoroughly likable heroine. Honoria was everything a heroine should be: strong, smart, resourceful, courageous and loyal. The hero Blade was my favorite sort; his rogue blue blood status placed him firmly in gamma hero territory and it didn't hurt that he was just the right amount of menacing, jealous and possessive. But then like a breath of fresh air, it turns out he is also emotionally stable - well accept for when the bloodlust flares up and his eyes turn black; but other than that he's in touch with his emotions and able to express them appropriately. He's also incredibly decent. The paranormal elements add an interesting story to the mix, and the take on vampirism is quite original. I've never read any steampunk before; but here it doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than lending a little extra atmosphere to the backdrop for the story. I loved it so much that I will probably read the sequel even though I'm not overly interested in Will and Lena's story

This was DELECTABLE and I'm so glad I decided to read it. It's been an age and a half since I've read a good steampunk centered fantasy novel, and this had all my favorite tropes and plot directions meticulously laid out for my pure, unadulterated enjoyment. I am very much looking forward to reading about MY BOY WILL in the next installment.

My first steam punk romance and my first vampire romance. I'm into it.
