God what a lovely series.

The first book is absolutely amazing and I recommend it to anybody who loves RPGs. I found the second book to be a little less so, but this one brings it back.

This series is absolutely lovely in concept and the characters (both in game and out of game) are just wonderful.

I highly recommend this series to anybody who loves DnD

I really liked this book, in this 3rd book in the series it really gets super meta. It makes it a bit hard to keep track of what universe you are in sometimes though. The epilogue was my favourite part honestly.

Notes:
Out of the first four books, this one has the best balance of plot, action & overall development.

I love Drew Haye's NPC series. It's clear he's an old school, gamer and a talented writer. For the most part book 3 was no exception. Training up powers, buying magic items and going on quests combined with a unique take on the players-go-into-the-magical-realm-of-their-characters trope.

Normally I would give it 4 stars and say, "great read".

Unfortunately in setting up one of the real world characters as "villain" he has the character make a statement to,the effect of "Female DM's are rare". I just dropped the book and walked away for three days after that. At the time the character was still ostensibly a protagonist from the first book, albeit a fallen one. Later, it,was obvious that this was meant to make " his turn to the dark side" clear, but in the moment it just pissed me off.

It was one moment and I did go back and enjoy the rest of the book, but it was significant enough to drop the rating and , clearly, comment on.

A decent storyline that pulls you along. Some nice development of the arc, but the hints about how long this might run have got me a little worried. I'm just going to take each book as it comes, but there will be a point where arc development has to come along big time.

Always had a soft spot for rogues. I kinda wish this had more about this character in it, but I enjoyed it and loved the way the two worlds are getting entwined
