These poems are full of passion and calls for change and hope. They are creative--Amanda Gorman clearly feels comfortable experimenting and playing with expression. Many of the poems focused on the pandemic since the book was published in 2021, and those particular poems no longer call to me. In others I could appreciate what Gorman was doing with style but didn't end up finishing as they lost my interest. However, I enjoyed most of the poems in this collection. There were a few I found particularly powerful, such as Earth Eyes and The Unordinary World. The quotes scattered throughout were also a nice touch.

Read this during silent reading time with my sophomores. Undoubtedly would have gotten more out of it if I'd read it in my own time and taken a moment to digest the poetry fully.
I don't think I've ever tabbed/underlined more parts of a book in my life. Amanda has a way of putting pen to paper and capturing the raw emotions so many felt during such a tumultuous time.
If you were traumatized by Covid, this will speak to you. I, however, had a great time. So I didn’t relate to this.

Written during & about the Covid pandemic, but very timely with what is happening in our country right now. Her poems are beautiful and moving
America's youngest Poet Laurette who recited her poem at President Biden's inauguration in 2021 "The Hill We Climb". Inspired by the insurrection Jan 6. I thought it an inspiration for the future. Maybe someday, hopefully soon. I really recommend this book of poems, she has a story to tell in her work.
There’s no doubt about it Amanda can write, and beautifully. I really wish there weren’t so many definitions in there though, like it was every 3 poems and I w as like PLEASE. Also I understand saying where the words are from if you’re using them from someone else, but that was also like every 3 poems please I just want no context and to just appreciate your beautiful writing here Amanda. Also Reading that this came out in 2021 not later in 2022 like I thought makes me less annoyed at the abundance of pandemic poems, because there were too many for me even if they were well written I just found myself getting worn down.
