this woman is phenomenal!! I have always had a love for poetry and used to write it (maybe I should start again). I loved the different formats she used within this collection. The Hill We Climb will always be a source of inspiration for me. my favorite poem of this collection was titled Life.

A crazy six months to read this book. Made me sad in whole new ways

Deeply moving. I will probably reread this many times.

This collection includes not only Gorman's poem that she read during Biden's inauguration "The Hill We Climb", but also several poems that reflect current events, such as the pandemic. Several of the poems bring to light historic people who are overlooked in history classes.

As always Gorman is a joy to read and she makes you think. For instance, from "Listening" : "It took us losing ourselves/ To see we require no kingdom/ But this kinship" (44). Or from "Another Nautical" : "Words, also like water,/Are a type of washing,/ Through them we cleanse ourselves of what we are not".
