Where has this book been my entire life? It’s my new favorite 2022 read. Honestly, it had me at queer band geeks. The characters are so well-developed and I love too that politics are a part of the storyline. I couldn’t put this down and this story’s going to stay with me a long time. Amazing debut!

Ace lesbian rep! I listened to this as an audiobook and Margot‘s semi-French Canadian accent in 2x speed drove me bonkers (because it was cringe) but then I convinced myself that it sounded like Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova doing a Russian accent and then it made me giggle. I liked that
Harper’s brother was gay, gotta love a little queer family
I don’t think I can forgive
what Harpers “friends” did though that’s pretty messed up

Roe vs. Wade was overturned and there was nothing I felt like reading so I escaped to this YA because I thought it was going to be safe. Even though Harper was very much a teenager, I found myself enjoying the book and was invested in the plot.

In the end I could only describe it as "wholesome LGBTQ+ YA in the vein of [a:Becky Albertalli|7579036|Becky Albertalli|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1392414949p2/7579036.jpg]."

This was a super cute read, but not for anyone who knows anything about American politics. At one point, a girl who’s dad is running as a democrat says “my dad is going to beat your dad in the primaries” or something like that, to our main character…who’s dad is a republican. The romance was cute, but growing up in a very politics centered household, the lack of realism just kinda ruined any scene with her dad in it lol

3.5/5 rounded up
