I am not ashamed to say that I love true crime, especially historical cases. The fact that many times, the cases go unsolved and will never be definitely solved, adds to the horror of the case. I also love a lot of the time periods of the historical cases.
I am well aware of the Lizzie Borden case and this book was such a great read, using elements of the original case and modernizing them.
It wasn't a five star read, because there were elements that didn't quite mesh with me. I'm not quite sure about the step mother or the uncle and aunt. Their parts were not quite *there*, but that might have been on purpose because the girls were unreliable narrators, for sure.

the story was fine and i did enjoy the plot for what it was, but the prose and character development were really what bothered me. the writing was choppy and didn’t have a great flow. i wish there was more separation between the sisters in terms of writing; i think i would have appreciated the depiction of grief in the short sentences more if only one sister was using that sort of language.
there was a lot of anger, a lot of monotony in the thoughts of charlotte and maddi, and a lot of not understanding the relationships between the characters. the contradictions in feelings with both sisters was actually baffling at some points, and the ending? it felt like a cop out to tie up any loose ends. the book felt like one big mess, which i could understand was intentional with some of the grief, but the mess carried over into the parts of the book that needed to be more straightforward.
again, the plot was decent, and i did like the tie-ins to the lizzie borden story. the vagueness between this novel and the real life case were pretty parallel which was satisfying. but those are really the only good things i can say about this book without being insincere.

"Dark thoughts fill my head."
This book is for you if... you like your thrillers to be inspired by real events
Thank you Netgalley and Random House Children's, for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I was really surprised by It Will End Like This, I wasn't expecting how eerie and tense the entire book was till the last 10 percent. I found myself glued to the book because there really wasn't any good places to stop and that didn't bother me at all.
I can't think of anything bad to say honestly, the only reason this isn't a 5 star read is that it just didn't give me the vibe that it was a 5 star book. I enjoyed it, but I didn't fall in love with it.
I am definitely interested in reading future books from Kyra Leigh based on this one alone, I enjoyed the writing style and how easy it flowed together.
This is a rather short review because I can't think of much else to say other than it was good and I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good thriller.

Rounded up to three stars.
Format read: Audiobook
Listening time: 7hrs, 59 minutes
I wanted to love this, I really did. I was really excited to read a contemporary twist on the Borden murders, but this didn't really hit the mark for me.
I really struggled to get along with Charlie as a character. Of course, as a contemporary retelling of Lizzie Borden, it is understandable that she may have a personality that is hard to gel with, but I found it hard to listen to and I know that I would have found it even harder to read. The constant dialogue of her struggling between being a nice person and a malicious one was something I found tiring to listen to, and I know that it would have probably irritated me even more on the page.
The only character I enjoyed reading was Maddi. and of. course, we get her perspective a little less. I enjoyed the twist that was added, and Maddi was unfortunately probably the only redeeming factor for me.
The other twists at the end? That wasn't just a prank, it was a twist to the point that the actions were actually twisted and, nope.
Also, with the chapter length, I am interested to see the layout of the physical novel. Most chapters must have only been a few pages long. But as I said, if this was a physical read for me, I think this would have been a DNF.
I'm hoping that I have a little more luck with Lizzie Borden contemporary retellings in the future!

What a truly heartbreaking story. The dizzying inner thoughts of both sisters often made reading this story disorienting, but its ability to do so was amazing. Some aspects of the story were a little predictable, but overall a really gut-wrenching read (and I say this in the best way, the way a thriller should be)
