This thoughtful memoir of a queer hijabi Muslim immigrant is beautifully written. I especially love how she interweaves and derives insights from stories in the Quran as she reflects on her own life.

Given how people I know talked up this book I had high expectations which were ultimately not met.
Graphic: Outing, Classism
I am not at all a fan of memoirs, but I found myself very much engaged here.
Lamya has a great voice in this book and I find comparing different instances in her life to stories in the Quran interesting as well. How she tackles her identity, her faith, her queerness as she grows up was well done.
The only thing I’ll say is that the constant jumping around to her different stages of life made it a bit jarring at points.
Other than that, a real page turner.
