1.5 stars. I had expected way better.

I was really looking forward to this one. I love Benji Davies art, and I had read a few books by Jory John, and I was interested in what the combination of these 2 people would be. Sadly, nothing good. :(

I loved the Bear character, he was really great and I sympathized with him a lot, the poor thing just wants to sleep, and then you got some annoying character named Duck, who just doesn't get the hint, who keeps waking/disturbing the bear.

And that is the biggest reason why I rated this book so low. The character Duck. Dear Lord, he was just so annoying, frustrating and I just wanted to fry him and have Bear eat him. I can imagine that you do this kind of thing once, but as someone is quite clear about stuff, just leave. Oh no. Not the Duck. :| Using spare keys, breaking in, anything goes when one apparently can't sleep.

I am sure the Duck was meant to be so *insert a lot of bad words here* obnoxious, but sorry, for me it just ruined the book.

The ending was one were I was shaking my head. All that and this happens? Just no.

The art was the one that saved the book. Instead of going for 0.5 stars (since I liked the Bear character), I gave this one a 1.5 star.

Would I recommend this book? NO. No. And triple no. There are better books about going to sleep to read.

After only a couple read-throughs, my 3-year-old would "read" this one to his parents imitating the alternating voices we use for the duck and bear. It hasn't made bedtime any easier, but it sure is a lot of fun.

I enjoyed this funny story about a bear trying to sleep and being pestered by his wide awake neighbor, Duck. The ending is funny and I think parents will appreciate the humor throughout the story.

The middle page with Duck waking Bear up in bed...priceless.
Otherwise, a cute, quick read! I liked it a lot.

Bear is so tired that he feels like he could sleep for months, but his neighbor Duck is wide awake! Duck comes to Bear and asks him to play cards, make smoothies, and do lots of other activities, but Bear sends him away. Duck comes back asking for help making cookies. Again, Bear sends him away. Duck comes back one more time to get Bear to play with him, but Bear just wants to sleep. Bear’s crankiness makes Duck feel sleepy, but now Bear doesn’t feel like sleeping.

This book perfectly captures the relationship of a parent and child when the child won’t go to bed. Both parents and children will be able to identify with the characters and laugh at Duck’s antics to try to get Bear to play with him. Even though the story itself is simple, the characters are well-developed. Duck and Bear have distinct, fun personalities and readers get to know them even in this one interaction between them. Many readers will wish for more from Bear and Duck in other books after reading this funny nighttime story.

Bear is so so tired, and is all ready for bed. However, his pesky neighbor, Duck, just won’t accept that. He is ready to do fun things, and wants Bear to join in! Kids will find it funny how Duck keeps popping up just as Bear is about to fall asleep. Parents will relate to Bear’s number one wish – sleep!
