Would you like to place a wake-up call to a fellow adult of their boastful behavior? Recommend them this book! Yertle the Turtle and its other stories ridicule megalomania, avarice, and bragging. A friendly reminder to not be evil.

{I actually read the version that comes from "Your Favourite Seuss - Thirteen Best-Loved Stories"}

Again, how relevant Dr. Seuss' writings are! Interestingly, Seuss shared in an interview that Yertle was either Hitler or Mussolini; how fitting. I'm sure today we could put a few other names to this turtle king...thankfully though, pride comes before the fall, and, if more "Mack's" would be brave enough to speak up and burp, perhaps the fall would come sooner...while I am grasping the deeper messages, my children are indeed getting the messages as well, just more at their current level, and they quite enjoy the story!

Stories are still a bit on the long side for my 4 month old, but she's a trooper and stayed with me until almost the end of the Yertle the Turtle story -- fidgeting only when the story became, in her opinion, two pages too long. This is one we'll definitely pull off the shelf again when she's older.
